She's smart, loves her son, and enjoys working in a microbrewery. She also has a troubled past -- foster homes, and a mysterious start to life. That plays a minor-major role in various books along with a current murder or two. This book contains both -- a current murder in the town of Leavenworth, Washington, and people from Sloan's past crashing through her life. It's an exciting mystery. Readers of the series will love it. If you haven't read the books from the beginning, I suggest you start with an earlier one. For me, this isn't a stand-alone story. This one felt like the author was trying a bit too hard to tie up any potential loose threads and was a bit disjointed as a result. The Forest element was a little "out there."
